What is a ‘Vector logo file’
Converting your logo to a vector format is a game-changer. Vector logos are based on mathematical equations, which means they can be scaled to any size without losing quality. This makes them ideal for large-scale print materials like billboards or small items like business cards, ensuring your logo looks perfect no matter the size.
Instead of using individual pixels as dots to create a whole image, (referred to as a ‘Raster file’ – which includes file formats such as .jpg, .png, .bmp, and .tif files) it is created with co-ordinates, points and lines, which can be translated to any size while keeping crisp, sharp edges. Typical file formats that support vector data are – .eps files, .svg files, .ai files, and sometimes .pdf files. Often to open or view some of these filetypes you need special programs, such as Adobe Illustrator, but this is generally how a printer or designer would prefer to receive a logo file.
Fonts are typically made from vector data – this is why no matter how big you make type it is always clean and precise, without unsightly blurring and fades to the edges of letters. This is how well your logo would then reproduce if converted to vector format.
